the competition is older than the fa cup and was first played in 1883. farnley batting first and are 111 for 4 after 28 overs. 50 overs a side with the away team being hot favourites. sat next to gloucestershire's ex spinner ian fisher, now plying his trade for farnley.

Yesterdays result from  red lane, and the Cup holders new farnley progress to the second round, with a  37, run, revised Duckworth Lewis victory over the hosts. Batting first, farnley posted a competitive total of 228 all out. kiwi pro cam fletcher playing first class cricket for Canterbury  in New Zealand, scoring 50, Alex, Lilly, 41, and lee Godard 36 being the main stays.

and ozman arshad 49. mathew lumb  with 4 for 28 for farsley.

When it was farsley's turn to bat, chris beach, 42, and jonathan reid, who was  not out on 53 when the heavens opened, were the only 2 to muster any semblance of resistance, and a strong batting lineup, including Yorkshires harry duke, 5, and dan revis, 19 capitulated in the face of some Miserly farnley bowling at the start of the farsley  reply. the sun even came out too. lovely first day's cricket.
