german ground hopping trip friday 3 april sunday 5 april.2025.

a very warm welcome from the magical and historical city of berlin. for one of my many pilgrimages to the land of beer, sausage, and affordable football. the 1st of 4 games in 3 days in germany. offering number one comes from the stadiom litchenfielde, regionalligga north ost action. hertha zelendorf vs rotweis erfert, who hail from the former east germany. 

this, the 4th tier of german football. 

13th vs 3rd. 

to obtain promotion, you have to win the league, and the 6 winners of the various regional leagues play off for 3 promotion spots. eerfert, however, are some way behind the leaders locomotive Leipzig. 

7 pm kick off, on a glorious berlin spring evening. 

but the biggest question of the weekend, how many bratwurst's can davis manage over the weekend? 

i magaged 11 on a trip in 2019. watch this space...

 full time  from last night and honours even with a 3 all draw. 

an error strewn game lacking in quality with several howlers by both keepers to conceed soft goals. 2 one to the away side erfert at half time, with a goal sandwiched in between their 2 strikes from home team.

who came back to lead 3 2, followed by an erfert equalizer. who then in turn had a chance to wrap up the points, but their number 9 fluffed his lines from the penalty spot with a very tame penalty kick. crowd aprox 550, with 200 or so noisy away fans from the former east germany. 

at stadion hohenschonhauen sport form, for game no 2. a berlin derby, pits north east berlin's bsc dynamo vs south west berlinbbs altglienicke.

and hence now in the former east germany. 7th vs 8th in 4th tier regionalligga nord ost. same league as last night's  offering. and there fore neither team can get promoted due to locomotive Leipzig being clear at the top. bsc mysteriously won ten east german championships between the 70 and 80s, allegedly due to  some involvement with stasi. whose museum is just around the corner. 1 pm kick off.

Full-time from yesterday and  an easy three Nil victory for the home side dynamo. 2 first half goals and a 2nd, 20 mins from time. sausage count a measly 3 thus far, but still with power to add. club shop displaying a superb array of old fashioned flags and pennants from past and present clubs from the former east germany. crowd 1966. game number 3. berlin oberligga action. 5th tier of german football. at tier 5, leagues are split into city or area reagues. obtain promotion to the 4th tier regionalliga's a team has to win the oberliga. mid day kick off at the mommenstadion. 

tennis borussia berlin vs makkabi berlin 7th vs 4th. home side's fans nick named the party army. 

upon departture, makkabi berlin leading 2 1 after 60 mins. crowd aprox 350. Final results actually finished for one and official crowd 311.

and now...

for the main event of the weekend. at the stadium of the forest. bundesligga top flight action. union berlin, 13th, vs vfl Wolfsburg, 12th. 

union have predominantly had  a 2nd tier team until 2019. since then, they've finished, 7th, 5 and 4th, and are a league  above rivals hertha. 

 berlin, in devision 2. their ground being gradually rebuilt by their own fans. 22000 capacity 18000 terrace, with plans to increase to 48000 with 27000 standing. Wolfsburg won german league 2009, and german cup 2015. 5 50 kick off. ground nunber 500 in total  visited for me. sausage count currently standing at 4.

game finished in a 1 nil victory for the home side in front of a 22000 sell out. 

and only 5 bratwurst over the course of the weekend — very poor show.
